Welcome to the Blackmoon Chronicles Online: Winds of War Revival project.
The purpose of this website is to just make it known that there is an effort to revive the MMO in its full capacity.
Our long term goal is to open source everything we can, including client, server, and all tooling we build or use in the process. We have quest, map, zone, and all gameplay data needed for a full restoration, along with full original client source code, and tools to create new assets and modify existing ones.
Though, we currently can’t easily open up everything as there are currently active licensing agreements and arrangements that could lead to legal action if not done correctly. There is an avenue for us to take to open source everything, but it requires some upfront private work first.
In the mean time, we will do our best to provide infrequent updates on our progress when we have something to show.
In addition, currently the server has a single developer. We are more than willing to have more server-side developers join the effort as long as they are ok with working in a temporary closed environment. We know this isn’t ideal for many, and we agree, but we have to protect the current license holders of the client from legal action, even if the likelihood is extremely low.
The current stack is written entirely in pure Go, PostgreSQL, Containers, and Github Actions. The client is in the original VC6 C++.
If you do not wish to partake on our side of the work, there is currently a clean room reverse engineering effort here. We are in contact with the project and doing our best to share what information and tools we can where legally safe, as we respect the work and support the effort.
